The Fay School

Pinck & Co. serves as the OPM for the implementation of the $63 million campus master plan. The first phase, construction of two dormitories and a 20,000 gallon per day wastewater treatment plant was completed on schedule and under budget. The dorms received a LEED gold certification. The second phase included the renovation of an existing building to function as the health center, extensive landscaping, roads, walkways and new athletic fields. Construction of the new 36,000 sf primary school, the third phase, began in spring in 2009, will be finished for the fall 2010 semester. Pinck & Co. led the team through the entire design process, organized workshops to coordinate input of teachers, staff and trustees, developed a RFQ/P for a Construction Manager at Risk selection and coordinated complex permitting requriements. Our firm coordinated all aspects of the procurement process from programming requirements to delivery; coordinated the installation and transfer of telephone and data services, cabling and data storage with the Fay’s technology group; with multiple stakeholders developed and implemented a comprehensive move strategy, including on-site coordination.

Boston Collegiate Charter School

The comprehensive renovation of a 28,000 sf, four story industiral building produced produced ten classrooms, labs, assembly space and offices for the relocation of the Dorchester charter school. As OPM Pinck & Co. oversaw the designer selection, constructability review, coordination of estimating services, contractor and sub-contractor pre-qualification and permittting, as well as leading the procurement of audio visual, telephone and data engineering, cabling and equipment. The schedule-driven project will be complete in August 2010.

Thacher Montessori School

Engaged as OPM, at the urging of the School’s attorney, just prior to the start of construction and to the Owner closing on Mass Development bond financing for this 9,000 s.f. 2nd story addition. Simultaneously it was discovered that the project was required to file for a zoning variance in April 2008. We guided the Owner and the team towards a permitting and phasing strategy that enabled the work to be complete in time for the fall semester 2008, even despite the severe thunderstorms over the summer which threatened the schedule on a daily basis.

Head Start Facility for the Community Action Agency of Somerville

As the OPM for this project Pinck & Co took over from the prior OPM when the contractor went bankrupt during foundation construction. The owner had already decided to engage one of the subcontractors as the replacement General Contractor (who had no track record as a G.C.) and the lenders were urging the Owner to engage Pinck & Co. Furthermore the plans had been developed for a design/build approach and thus when we took over the plans were not complete for a traditional approach. Working closely with the new General Contractor we negotiated a construction contract that would satisfy the lenders and then completed the project on time and budget on a brownfield site in Somerville, MA.

Community Charter School of Cambridge

OPM and Clerk of Works during construction Pinck & Co was engaged to provide construction oversight, monitoring and administration for the expansion of this middle school. With many issues left unaddressed by the landlord in the expansion space, we expedited the resolution to neighborhood noise concerns that threatened the school’s fall semester in addition to coordinating significant unforeseen utility issues discovered just weeks before the school was to open.
