Boston Collegiate Charter School
Pinck & Co was initially engaged by Boston Collegiate Charter School (BCCS) to manage a study to determine if the historic industrial building, the former Skinner Organ Factory, was a good candidate for conversion into a 21st century elementary school. We provided a cost effective study including a building condition survey, a structural assessment, a fit plan, a preliminary zoning and code analysis, and a conceptual construction cost estimate. Subsequently BCCS purchased 215 Sydney Street and engaged Pinck to help complete the school in time for the fall semester of 2010.
All work was completed in just over one year, on a very aggressive schedule for this complex project. Pinck quickly found ways to expedite normally time consuming processes - for example, during the Commonwealth’s selection of a school architect (a three month process), Pinck saw an opportunity to perform programming while the board made its decision. This move saved at least two months for the project. Pinck guided the project through a multi-faceted permitting process on an extremely difficult site adjacent to the south east expressway and MBTA Red Line.
