Clark Avenue School

Chelsea, MA

Pinck & Co. is the OPM for the demolition and new construction of this MSBA-funded 160,000 SF middle school, of which only 140,000 SF was occupied due to the poor condition of some parts of the structure. The building, originally built in the 1900s, was in extremely poor condition, with inadequate and antiquated building systems, inaccessible entries and circulation, and very little working space outside the classrooms for teacher support and collaboration. Pinck & Co. presented a ‘Preferred Schematic Report’ to the MSBA which recommended new construction, an option which is being phased to provide for the continuous operation of the school. The new MSBA-funded school will house 670 students, grades 5-8; demolition and construction is taking place in two 18 mo. phases while the school is fully occupied. The project is being performed under the CMaR delivery method.
